NCAA – Celebrate Responsibly. SPRING! SPRING?

NCAA: Play Ball!

It certainly shouldn’t be news by now that Kentucky plays their first game in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen tonight against UCLA. Start time is approximately 9:39 pm shortly after the conclusion of North Carolina vs. Butler and the game will be televised on CBS. Get your popcorn ready and order your pizza!

Reminder: The LFUCG Division of Code Enforcement has been monitoring “areas that have historically experienced an increase in code and safety violations during past NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournaments”. Residents have been asked to remove indoor furniture from the exterior of their property as well as trash and debris from the front, side and back of the yard. Please – wherever you live – celebrate in an appropriate manner. Enjoy the games but remember that destruction of property and violence are not the way to go. Let’s not have the the rest of the world see UK fans as unruly hooligans who are inconsiderate and lawless.

Spring May Have Finally Sprung!

Dare we believe that Spring has finally sprung? It seems so but if you’ve lived in Kentucky very long at all you know that the weather can turn on a dime! We’ve had snow on Easter before! So plant those bulbs and plants, fire up the grill and hook up the garden hose if you want to wash your car. Just remember that if we have another “cold snap” or freeze warning you’ll need to cover your plants and disconnect the hose again until it’s warm again.

Did you know? According to MentalFloss.com, “Before Spring was called Spring, it was called Lent in Old English. Starting in the 14th century, that time of year was called ‘springing time’—a reference to plants ‘springing’ from the ground. In the 15th century this got shortened to ‘spring-time,’ and then further shortened in the 16th century to just ‘spring’.”
